A study with university students reveals that 32% have presented suicidal ideation

Prof. José A. Piqueras and researcher Victoria Soto-Sanz, members of the AITANA group and the Universal Team, have published with an international consortium “Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors Among First-Year College Students: Results From the WMH-ICS Project”. The aim of this study was to detect thoughts and suicidal behaviors in late adolescents from 8 countries around the world. Findings derived from this research suggest that 32.7% of young people have suicidal ideation and, of these, about half start a suicide plan. The study highlights the need to carry out preventive interventions focused on acting on risk factors in this population.
